The Leaside Jr Elite U22 Wildcats capped off an incredible weekend at the Canada/USA Showcase Tournament in Kitchener-Waterloo, continuing to build on the momentum from their success earlier this season in Detroit. The Wildcats delivered a stellar round-robin performance, finishing with an impressive record of three wins and one tie, including two shutouts by Isabella Lane #88 and one by Claire Hicks #30 . Combined they gave up 2 goals in the round robin.
This dominant performance earned the Wildcats a spot in Sunday’s playoff round against one of the nation’s top teams, Stoney Creek. Despite a few tough bounces in the game, the Wildcats held their ground, going shot-for-shot with their opponents in a hard-fought battle to the final whistle. While the game didn’t end with a win, it was a testament to the team’s progress and potential.
One Stoney Creek parent summed it up perfectly: “That is not the same Leaside I remember.”
“Damn right,” said the Wildcats. The growth and confidence of this team, both on and off the ice, have been evident as the season progresses. Their ability to compete on both sides of the puck at such a high level demonstrates the program’s upward trajectory and a bright future ahead.
The Wildcats will take the lessons from this showcase into the rest of their season, proving they’re a team to watch as they continue to rise. Congratulations to the Leaside Jr Elite Wildcats on another strong performance!
